Review of "The Sjambok" by John Roberts-James
The Sjambok is a whip like weapon used by the South African police as a
defensive weapon. In the book "The Sjambok",John Roberts-James gives a
very detailed account of the use of the weapon, to be used in self defence.
How to hold, grip, stances, offensive and defensive postures, strike forms,
thrusts and jabs, targeting, combination techniques are covered. The book
has lots of photographs of techniques along with extensive written
descriptions to accompany the photographs.
The Sjambok aside, the book has much to offer in advice on personal self
defence. The psychology of defence and the attitude in defensive attack as
well as the view of the law in personal defence situations. This advice is
given in John's own personal way.

Dear John
Many thanks for sending me your latest Sjambok book. I enjoyed reading it
immensely and still have blisters from trying to master the techniques.
"The book is well written by an accomplished expert but describes the
techniques through the eyes and mind of a beginner. The many pictures are
excellent at describing how to hold and use the Sjambok to best
effect. undoubtedly the best training aide currently available"
